The NBA's massive 13-game schedule includes a contest between the Houston Rockets and the New Orleans Pelicans on December 23. This is the second meeting between the two clubs this season; the previous saw the Rockets win by a just three points.
With a 14-12 record, the Houston Rockets are ranked ninth in the NBA Western Conference. In their most recent game, they defeated the Dallas Mavericks, 122-96, to end their three-game losing streak.
In the meantime, the New Orleans Pelicans have defeated the Cleveland Cavaliers by 19 points in their most recent game, capping off a successful comeback victory. They have a 17–12 record going into this game versus the Rockets.
Zion Williamson is listed as "questionable" by the New Orleans Pelicans owing to an illness. Both players should be considered at the time of the game, as Cody Zeller is likewise rated as "questionable."
It is anticipated that Matt Ryan will rejoin the Pelicans in the middle of February, and Larry Nance Jr. will hopefully recover from his rib ailment by the end of January.
Tari Eason and Reggie Bullock Jr. are considered "questionable," and the Rockets will decide on them at the start of the contest. Victor Oladipo's return date after his knee injury is still unknown.
Trey Murphy III filled in and started as a forward alongside Brandon Ingram for the Pelicans as Zion Williamson was out from their most recent game. The starting guards are Herb Jones and CJ McCollum, with Jonas Valanciounas a lock at center.
The Rockets' normal starting five have not yet suffered any ailments. Alperen Sengun begins at center, but Fred VanVleet has been playing point guard with Jalen Green as his backcourt duo. Dillon Brooks and Jabari Smith Jr. make up the remaining starting front office members.
