Cleveland Cavaliers and Washington Wizards continue their NBA Cup play on Tuesday with the last group stage match. The Cavaliers are currently fourth on the East Group C with one win and two losses and the Wizards are last on the same group with three losses to their name.
Since only the winners of the Groups with one team from each group getting the best Second best team in each conference being allowed to the quarter final stage none of these two teams can made it to the quarter finals. Still, there’s plenty to play for since all NBA Cup games but for the final game of the tournament contribute to the team’s total for the regular season.
What makes Cleveland come into this contest favored is a blend of the league’s best record of 18-3. The Cavaliers recently experienced their first two games consecutively losing streak in a double header to Atlanta.
They were able to recover from that by coming out with a big statement win over the Boston Celtics with a 115-111 score at home on Sunday, and now stand just one game ahead of the defending champions.
For Washington, there really isn’t much to tell. The Wiz are currently the worst team in the NBAtics have accumulated a win-loss record of two wins and 16 losses and have now lost their last 14 consecutive games.
In order for Washington to stop this long losing streak they have to make some adjustments. The Wizards themselves, however, did score 116 points in their initial match with the Cavaliers.
That is well above what they had been averaging during the losing streak, and nearly 10 points above what they have scored on average this season. Washington got 23 points from Bilal Coulibaly in that game. However, Kyle Kuzma and Jordan Poole scored only 28 points, shooting 7 of 25 in the game. For the game Tuesday, Kuzma is listed as day-to-day, but for the Wizards to have any shot, both he and Poole will need to play far better.
The Cavaliers' inability to defend the three is their one weakness. This season, Cleveland lets teams shoot 38.3 percent from outside the arc, the second-highest percentage in the NBA. Additionally, the Cavaliers give up the fourth-most three-pointers per game in the NBA. Even though they aren't the best shooting team, Washington must be on Tuesday. The Cavaliers can win this game if they can replicate Washington's 15 three-point shooting performance from their first meeting.
The Cavaliers recently defeated the Boston Celtics in a thrilling game. They had suffered two losses to the Atlanta Hawks in the previous two games, so the victory was highly needed.
However, on Tuesday night, Cleveland's offensive prowess will be evident. The Wizards give up the second-most points per game, while the Cavaliers top the NBA in scoring. This one should be another high-scoring contest for the Cavaliers.
Throughout the whole month of November, the Wizards failed to win any games. Only one of their 14 games in a losing run was decided by fewer than 10 points. But they lost that one game by nine points. The Wizards are scoring only 105.3 points per game and giving up 122.9 points per game during their losing run. Washington's recent struggles have been severe, and going into Tuesday's game, things don't appear to be getting any better.
The Cavaliers scored 135 points in their opening game against the Wizards, winning by 19 points. Cleveland made 18 three-pointers during the contest and shot 53.6% from the field. In addition, the Cavaliers made 34 free throws during the victory. Donovan Mitchell, Darius Garland, and Jarrett Allen scored 76 points between them during the game.
