On Wednesday, January 3, the Cleveland Cavaliers (18-15) host the Washington Wizards (6-26). This season, the Wizards have had difficulty developing the talent they have and are still waiting on some internal development. During the summer, Washington began to rebuild, acquiring Jordan Poole in exchange for the departures of Bradley Beal and Kristaps Porzingis.

Cleveland, though, still have the quality necessary to compete in the playoffs. Nevertheless, they've been hampered in their recent attempts to move up the Eastern Conference standings by injuries to some of its key players.

Before their game against the Wizards, the Cleveland Cavaliers will be without Ty Jerome, Evan Mobley, and Darius Garland. The Cavaliers' starting lineup would be incomplete without Garland and Mobley, and their prolonged absence is making it harder for the group to contend at the highest levels.

With Danil Gallinari suffering from lower back spasms, the Washington Wizards will have to wait to see if he can return to action. Washington has a clear injury report and is expected to use a full-strength rotation aside from the seasoned forward.

The odds for Donovan Mitchell to score fewer than 31.5 points against the Washington Wizards are -125. At the moment, he averages 27.9 points per game, but given Washington's defensive shortcomings, he might have a monster scoring night. He might find scoring pockets everytime he passes over screens because he will be the greatest player on the floor during the game.

The odds on Daniel Gafford scoring more than 10.5 points are -122. At the moment, the outstanding big man is scoring 10.8 points per game on average for Washington. To secure a big scoring night by his current standards, Gafford will need to delve deeply into his post plays since matching up against Jarrett Allen won't be simple.

The Cleveland Cavaliers are strong favorites against the Washington Wizards going into the contest. They are -450 on the money line and -10 on the spread. Donovan Mitchell is the unquestionably best player in the game, thus having him in their rotation offers them a significant advantage.

Kyle Kuzma's versatility and Jordan Poole's outside shooting will be crucial for Washington. But the Cavaliers should be too talented for the Wizards to handle, and they have a good chance of winning a few more games this season.
