Hacken is set to host Molde this Thursday, and they understand that their only real chance of keeping their Europa League knockout stage qualification hopes alive is to secure a victory.
On the other hand, Molde is heading to Sweden, well aware that winning against Hacken for the second time in a row would secure them a third-place finish and a minimum qualification for the Europa Conference League after the winter break.
Following their surprising Swedish title win last season, Hacken had high expectations for the ensuing months. However, they not only lost their title and will finish in third place but are also facing an early elimination from European competitions.
They've suffered three consecutive defeats in Group H, and their only goal came in the previous match against Molde, briefly leveling the score before losing 5-1.
As a result, Hacken now finds themselves in a situation where a loss at Ullevi would leave them at least six points behind at the bottom of the group with only two matches left to play.
Unless a miracle occurs, Hacken is likely to miss out on securing a spot in the Europa Conference League for the period after Christmas. This puts immense pressure on them to perform well in their upcoming match on Thursday.
Per-Mathias Hogmo's team has only managed to win two out of six matches in various competitions. This performance gives Molde a strong belief that they can achieve back-to-back victories against their upcoming opponents.
Despite their dominant 5-1 win against Hacken a fortnight ago, Molde has faced defeat in their other five matches in all competitions. With three games left to play, Molde has already ruled out the possibility of qualifying for European competitions in the 2024-25 season through the league. Their hopes now hinge on winning the cup final against Bodo/Glimt.
At present, Molde is solely focused on their impending match, with Erling Moe and his team realizing that a victory against their Scandinavian rivals will almost guarantee them a consolation prize of Europa Conference League football after Christmas, in case they fail to secure a higher position than second-placed Qarabag FK.
Edward Chilufya's recent injury against Malmo might open the door for Srdjan Hrstic to be positioned in the central role of the attack.
Unless there are additional fitness concerns, the rest of the team is expected to remain unchanged, although Even Hovland is in contention for a return to the central defensive position.
Considering Molde's improved performance despite their loss to Rosenborg, it's possible that Moe could decide to keep the same starting lineup intact.
