Last season's runners-up, Juventus, welcome Serie A's struggling Salernitana to Turin on Thursday night to begin their Coppa Italia campaign.

The victors will play Frosinone in a quarterfinal match, and Juventus' ultimate goal is to win the Coppa for the fifteenth time in May.v

After serving a one-year ban that kept them out of UEFA tournaments this season, the Bianconeri were left to focus on following Inter at the top of Serie A. Despite two years of turmoil, they are still in the running for a domestic double.

The struggling team has made progress toward winning 13 league games without a loss under the direction of returning coach Max Allegri, and they are currently only two points out of first place in the rankings.

The Scudetto hopefuls defeated Roma's resistance in Serie A's Saturday night kickoff at the Allianz Stadium most recently. Adrien Rabiot's goal shortly after halftime separated the two clubs that like to sit deep and counter.

Juventus has undoubtedly regained the ability to hold opponents at bay and strike when the chance presents itself. They have won no fewer than 12 league games by a 1-0 scoreline in 2023. In addition, they have only allowed seven goals in their last 14 home games.

Now, with Juve traveling to Salerno for a Serie A match this weekend, Allegri's team enters Thursday's match as the first leg of a doubleheader versus Salernitana.

Salernitana failed to match that level of effort last February, losing 3-0 at Stadio Arechi. The team had drawn 2-2 on their previous league visit to Turin, where Juventus equalized late on and three players were sent off during stoppage time.

Although the Campanian team managed to escape relegation, their current battle against the drop appears to be more akin to that of 2022, when they appeared to be finished at Christmas but managed to make a spectacular comeback from the Serie A trapdoor.

Even with Saturday's crucial 1-0 victory over Hellas Verona, Pippo Inzaghi's team is still at the bottom of the standings; however, winning on the road after a lengthy absence at least raises spirits.

Salernitana had been hunting for their first away victory since January 2023 after five losses and two draws from eight road visits this season, but that drought has now been broken ahead of a challenging cup match in midweek.

After losing in the first round of the previous season, the Granata defeated Ternana and Sampdoria of Serie B to go to the round of sixteen, where they will face their former team, Juventus, with a quarterfinal spot up for grabs.
