Copenhagen and Sparta Prague will face off in the first leg of their third-round qualifying match on Tuesday night in an effort to advance closer to a position in the Champions League group stages.

The Danish heavyweights defeated Breidablik 8-3 overall to easily advance to the second round, while their Czech opponents are now starting their most recent European campaign.

Copenhagen traveled to Iceland for a second-qualifying round match with Breidablik, who were not widely expected to pull off a miraculous comeback when the two sides resumed hostilities in the Danish capital a week later. Two first-half goals did the damage.

Breidablik's three goals allowed the Icelandic minnows to return to the north with pride, but Oskar Hrafn Thorvaldsson's 6-3 thrashing by Jacob Neestrup's Danish champions made for a humiliating experience for them.

Orri Oskarsson, an Icelandic youngster playing for Copenhagen, was the game's outstanding player. The 18-year-old scored his first goal of the night in first-half injury time and finished his hat-trick by the 56th minute, sending one of his country's home games to defeat.

Copenhagen's recent successes on the international stage have transferred into their customary victories in the Danish Superliga as well. Neestrup's team has won three straight games to begin their title defense, most notably crushing Randers 4-0 on Saturday to preserve their three-point lead over Nordsjaelland.

Copenhagen made its fifth appearance in the Champions League group stages in 2022–23, and in their previous eight efforts, they had only once been eliminated in the third round of qualification. Sparta Prague, however, arrived in Scandinavia with a winning mentality.

Due to their status as the reigning Czech champions, Sparta Prague were exempt from the first two rounds of the Champions League qualification process. Sparta Prague also avoided the threat of longtime rivals Slavia Prague to win the Czech Republic's premier division for the first time in nine seasons last season.

Both Sparta and Slavia concluded the season with 78 points, and although Slavia had a stronger goal differential after all was said and done in the Championship Group, Sparta's higher regular-season point total of 68 over 66 was crucial.

The Maroons have started the defense of their title similarly to Copenhagen, with an undefeated record after three games. They began by defeating Sigma Olomouc and Zlin before a 5-2 demolition job.

the signing of In that seven-goal feast, Jan Kuchta started his account for the season with a brace. Brian Priske is now in charge and must prevent Sparta from losing in the third qualifying round once more, as they have done in their last four Champions League appearances.

Sparta Prague, a former regular in the Champions League competition, has yet to play in a group stage since the 2005–06 season, but they have lost both of their prior encounters with Copenhagen in the 2009–10 Europa League group stage by scores of 3-0 and 1-0.
