Lille will be preparing for this Saturday’s Ligue 1 match at home against Toulouse after securing arguably their biggest win in their history in the midweek.

As expected the Les Dogues shock the entire European football fraternity by clipping champions league defending champions Real Madrid in the 15 th occasion on wednesday at the Stade Pierre Maurice.

Sadly, no fans were present to see Lille’s heroic title win in the 2020-21 season and Wednesday was special for all associated with the club.

Being able to witness their club perform so brilliantly against the giants of Real Madrid and even triumph over them would have compensated for their missing the real miracle of the three years ago.

Bruno Genesio’s team offered an impressive first-half display and only in the added time of this period, Jonathan David scored the opener from the penalty point, while in the second half, the team from Lille struggled for a victory.

Lucas Chevalier and Tiago Santos, a young full-back, many goal-line clearances at the end, especially from Jude Bellingham, to make up for the loss to Sporting Lisbon on the first matchday.

The result was even more surprising given that Lille did not exactly begin the season with a lot of flair, with the team suffering a four-game losing streak in the month prior.

A 3-0 win against Le Havre clearly helped them get back to form before Wednesday’s match which placed them fifth albeit six points behind the leaders.

Now Genesio’s men will have to play against a Toulouse side that has recently been a bit troublesome for them, although the latter traditionally has a good performance against them.

Despite winning only two of the 28 games that came before that streak, Lille has lost two of their past six home matches against TFC. Generally speaking, a mere one victory from five home games in Ligue 1 is a small cause for concern.

Lille has scored three goals in each of their last two Ligue 1 games, so there are no concerns about their offense. They might make it three goals in a row tonight for the first time since the 2015–16 campaign.

Toulouse, like Lille, defeated Liverpool in the Europa League on their own red-letter day the previous season, but by contrast, the season has started terribly.

David's penalty in the middle of the week maintained his duopoly with Edon Zhegrova, who has been the source of all nine goals for Les Dogues this season (David with five, Zhegrova with four).

Zakaria Aboukhlal of Toulouse is now experiencing a lack of confidence, and he was the one who missed a penalty against Brest, so the offensive lineup should remain the same without him.

Despite scoring in three consecutive games as a substitute prior to blanking in both of his starts since joining the team, Shavy Babicka has also found it difficult to establish himself.

With two goals and an assist in their five Ligue 1 goals so far this season, Yann Gboho has been the team's shining light and ought to start on the left side of attack.
