On Friday night at Soldier Field, Mexico and Bolivia will have a tune-up as part of their Copa America preparations.

In order to gain momentum for the finals in the United States, both teams are playing three friendly matches leading up to the continental showcase, the first of which is being played in Chicago.

For the first time since losing to the USMNT in the CONCACAF Nations League final, Mexico is back in play and eager to go back to winning ways.

El Tri has had inconsistent success since the end of 2023; in their last seven games of the previous year, Jaime Lozano's team managed three wins. That 2-0 loss against Gregg Berhalter's team was the continuation of that trend.

Friday night's friendly matches against Brazil and Uruguay may be Mexico's greatest opportunity to win before their tournament debut on June 23.

El Tricolor has won two of the past eight non-competitive games, thus the Mexicans' recent performance does not suggest a good result at Soldier Field.

During that time, Lozano's team has only kept two clean sheets, which were in the 2-0 victories over Ghana and Guatemala. These results highlight the issues that need to be resolved if they want to win this week.

Bolivia is eager to improve on their most recent friendly victory over Andorra, which came in March, and is not anticipated to be taking on opponents.

La Verde's prior performance was disappointing, as seen by the team's seven losses in eight games played under Antonio Carlos Zago.

Despite having only played in four games, Zago, 55, will highlight the team's progress under his leadership in their victories over Andorra (1-0) and Peru (2-0).

The Green have kept clean sheets in both victories, but it's unclear if they can keep Mexico out on Friday night given that El Tri's previous defeat against Paraguay in a friendly in September 2022 saw them fail to score.

Bolivia appears to be under Zag's constructive direction, regardless of the result at Soldier Field. They will aim for another strong performance to gain some confidence prior to their Copa America start on June 23 against the hosts USMNT.
