Morocco's World Cup qualification match against Zambia in Group E will take place on Friday at Adrar Stadium.

After Eritrea withdrew, Walid Regragui's team played just one game in November 2023. Now, they will try to win two straight when they meet the Copper Bullets in Agadir, a replay of their Africa Cup of Nations group-stage matchup.

Months after their unexpected loss to South Africa in the Africa Cup of Nations semifinals, Morocco is back in the competition, determined to make waves in the fight for a spot in the World Cup.

Despite losing in the first round of the knockout round to the Atlas Lions, who were the favorites to win the continental championship in Cote d'Ivoire, Regragui and his group intend to get over their January setback.

With nothing riding on either encounter, Africa's top-ranked team previously completed two non-competitive matches in March: a 1-0 victory over Angola and a goalless draw with Mauritania led by Amir Abdou.

Morocco might go three points clear of their opponents after their close game on Friday, and they could also go three clear of Niger, who are playing away against Congo before traveling to Kinshasa on June 11.

Regragui's team wants to escape the shame of losing in 2026 after making history in Africa and the Arab world at the 2022 World Cup in Qatar. This has increased the pressure ahead of the third and fourth qualifying rounds.

Due to their lack of World Cup experience, Zambia is not expected to place well in Morocco or advance to the 2026 championships.

In order for Avram Grant to become the first manager in Chipolopolo history, the Central African country needs to recover from its 2-1 loss in Niger during the qualifying round's second round in November.

After defeating Congo Republic 4–2 at home in the first round, they lost, but that set the groundwork for the remainder of their determined World Cup quest.

Hakim Ziyech's goal in the first half of their most recent encounter, which took place in Cote d'Ivoire, eliminated the Copper Bullets after three games.

That result appears possible for a country that has lost its last three away games in World Cup qualification — four losses in five games (one victory) — and might cause Grant's team to lag behind in qualifying.
