Leeds United, still looking for their first Championship season win, will travel to Hillsborough on Friday to take on Yorkshire rivals Sheffield Wednesday.

After two games this season, the visitors have drew both of them, and their hosts have three points after two convincing wins and a crushing loss.

Sheffield Wednesday, who traveled to Sunderland following an incredible start to their Championship campaign, will be looking to recover from a significant loss last weekend when they return to Hillsborough on Friday.

The Owls entered their first full season under Danny Rohl's leadership with a great deal of hope after stunningly avoiding the threat of the drop the previous time around. They furthered this optimism on opening day by defeating Plymouth Argyle 4-0 in South Yorkshire.

In addition to a Brendan Galloway own goal, Jamal Lowe, Josh Windass, and Michael Smith scored in that match. After that, they won the EFL Cup 2-1 on the road at Hull City behind a brace from Charlie McNeill, and they made the difficult trip to the Stadium of Light to try to win the league back-to-back to begin the season.

Eliezer Mayenda, Dennis Cirkin, and Luke O'Nien put Sunderland up 3-0 in the opening half-hour, and Mayenda added his second and the hosts' fourth goals early in the second half. The Owls were unable to do so, though, and lost 4-0 on their own.

Sheffield Wednesday will now look to get over that setback and resume winning ways with a first win over their Yorkshire rivals since 2020, even though their schedule isn't getting any easier.

After a sluggish start, its guests travel to South Yorkshire in hopes of earning their first three-point haul of the season.

Leeds United, who finished third with 90 points and lost 1-0 to Southampton in the playoff final at Wembley, narrowly missed making an immediate return to the Premier League under Daniel Farke's guidance the previous season. As a result, they turned their attention to a promotion bid for the 2024–25 season.

The Whites have not been fast off the start, as they have gone from behind to salvage a point from a 3-3 draw at home against newly promoted Portsmouth in their curtain-raiser. Brenden Aaronson's goal in the 95th minute pulled them level at two goals apiece, following a difficult period of high-profile departures following that disappointing playoff campaign.

Then, after losing the EFL Cup first round 3-0 at Elland Road to Middlesbrough, Farke's team traveled to the Hawthorns on Saturday to play West Bromwich Albion, and again, they came away with a share of the spoils as the match finished goalless.

Georginio Rutter left the team after that loss, even though the Frenchman did not play this past weekend. Leeds United is going to Hillsborough in the midst of a difficult time, and they will be eager to get back on the field with a win in Friday's Yorkshire derby to move up to five points from three games.
